Bob, I mean't has anyone had a new HU (that replaced a failed one) fail. If
not one might suspect there was a bad original batch fitted to some (most?)
GTSs.

Well, yes my HU did fail that's why Yamaha replaced it under the Y.E.S.
plan. BTW, mine was always serviced and maintained by the local Yamaha
dealer, so they couldn't say it was due to improper service. To my knowledge
no one has had a HU replaced that didn't fail. Mine was the typical, it
locks the rear tire at any speed, type of failure. I don't know of anyone
that has had it replaced that didn't have a failure, or Yamaha wouldn't have
replaced it. If memory serves, FJ owners have also had similar problems, and
one FJ person was rebuilding them. I think one of our guys tried him and
wound up rebuilding it again himself when it didn't work right after the FJ
person "rebuilt" it. Isn't that where the rebuild instructions came from on
Kevin's web page? Even if the HU fails the brakes still work, just no ABS,
back to regular mode, possible to lock up. My brake fluid is changed now
every 6-9 months and in that time it already starts looking a bit rough. I
also exercise the ABS occasionally to keep the pump parts moving and keep
fresh fluid in it. This appears to be the way to keep from having a problem.

Surely you don't think FJ owners maintain or store their bikes any better
than GTS owners? . Has
anyone who had a HU replaced had it fail?

Cheers Joe.
