I'm not sure I agree here, although it is a feasible theory.

In my case, the front and rear shocks had not lost their dampening ability in 100,000
miles. I really can't say for sure on the front since I replaced it, but I only 
replaced it late
last year at around 92k.  I am not experiencing any pogoing or wobbly feeling rear.

Also note: The GTS won "best suspension" in the end of the year comparisons on 
motorcyclist
that netted it the Bike of the year in 93.  I know that's a while ago, but shocks 
haven't really
changed that much that I know of, and the GTS had more adjustments than 99% of the 
bikes
out there.  But don't count the rear, since it's impossible to adjust. :)
