I think I was comparing to my area (Maryland) where winter temps regularly
get into the 20's (and sometimes teens and lower) and summer temps can
regularly get to the 90's, and sometimes 100+. Wider range of temps than I
think the SF area. A normal winter low will be about 30, a normal summer
high will be 90. So if running 20w-50 in the winter, I give it some extra
warmup time.

Anton, I still live in Pacifica, in the house you met me at...

Commuting to Redwood Shores, the temps are pretty mild, 40-60 in the winter,
though in the summer it can be 50's at my house but 80's at work, 90's on a
rare day. I have lived here 9 years and ride everywhere very comfortably
including down your way. I have found the best gear for this area is a pair
of FirstGear Leather Overpants to go over my work clothes and a Darien
AeroStitch Jacket with the electrically heated full jacket liner. It's
never too cold around here with the liner in and plugged in and never too
hot
with liner out and all vents open.
