Yup, front sprocket, and the noise will vary according to road speed,
although it might change depending on throttle setting.
The OEM front sprocket had some eurithane/rubber stuff that was bonded to
it, which appears to be designed to absorb vibrations/noise. I was
thinking about seeing if Yamaha had a 530 front sprocket from a FZR/YZR1000
that would fit. At first the noise bothered me, but now I dont notice it.
However, the GTS was so quiet that I would prefer it to be like it was new.

Well last night I determined that the noise wasn't coming from the front as
it sounded while on the bike. Actually coming from the front sprocket. It
may be that its just more chain noise than I'm used to hearing, having
recently converted to 530 sprockets. .
