Welcome to the GTS list.
You'll be hard-pressed to find someone on this list to talk you out of
it. Generally, sounds like you're a good candidate for ownership. The GTS
certainly isn't light and nimble, but it compensates in many areas.
Basically, just make the usual checks and test the ABS, since failure of the
rear ABS pump is the one item that can go out without any indication until
you stomp on the brake. (Yamaha will usually replace the pump under a secret
warranty, but that is a whole can of worms and a very long discussion thread.
Check archives for info.)
Prices range from just under $5K to the mid $7K range, depending upon the
condition, accessories and personal gall of the seller. But with a
complicated machine like this, it probably pays to plan towards the high end
and get one that's been kept up and treated kindly.
Check out http://www.gts1000.org/ and the link page from there. As for
finding one for sale, you might have to be a bit patient, but you'll find
something if you try.
