Down here in Florida, the flow of traffic varies
greatly on the interstates. It can range anywhere
from off peak cruise speeds of 90mph to 0-5mph during
the height of rush hour. This morning, Sunday morning,
I fired up the GTS for it's weekly exercise. The
snow birds [migrating US Northerners and Canadians]
are prettymuch gone, leaving the roadways ripe for
some high speed cruising. In order to get to my
back road twisties I must first travel 30 miles up
the interstate, where the flow this morning was
80-90 mph and cop free. As I grabbed some throttle
to pass a slow 70mph moving vehicle, the GTS
forcefully and steadily thrusted to 100 mph in
what seemed like 3 seconds.
When I reached my country county roads, it was then
that I had to do some 2 lane passing of Sunday morning
Church goers. Again, no down shift, grab some throttle
and the GTS pulls like a well stoked locomotive.
It was then ,it occured to me,that the GTS was the
first modern super sport tourer almost 7yrs ahead
of Hondas Blackhawk [not even fuel injected upon
it's inception] and Suzuki's Hyabusa. [which was
fuel injected] Neither of these bikes have ABS.
Of course, BWM's K1200 had fuel injection and ABS,but
still came years after the GTS.
When I reached the Sunday morning gathering spot,
the GTS got the usual inquisitive onlookers ,pointing
fingers like it was some sort of UFO. But of course, I
love it. Any way, the GTS with it's clean sexy curvy
body, 8yrs later still looks completely fresh and
new. Only time will tell how the Hyabusa and
Blackhawk hold their looks 8-10 yrs down the road.
