They don't call it "the police state of Virginia" for nothing.  I've spent a
total of 12 years there in two stretches (undergraduate / graduate&post
graduate).  Nice people, beautiful country & GREAT roads but the most
obnoxious, intrusive government of any state I've been in.  During my
parent's visit for my graduation my father was stopped because he didn't
have a county sticker even though he had out of state plates - doesn't
matter, college students had to buy the sticker regardless.  Even though he
was 66 at the time he was stopped becasue he was leaving a college residence
area.

I was ticketed once for parking in a restricted area becasue my sidestand
was ON the white line at the edge of a loading zone.  I can go on & on & on.
I go back to visit people & ride the roads but I don't live there anymore.
