Yes that's right.
But nowadays some manufactures tell that they have batteries wich can be used
as
a start battery and also as a deep cycle battery (less power for a longer
time).
For example the X-tender series from centurion and the Yellow Tops from Optima.

In that way you can use one battery instead of two. Then you don't need all the
diodes,
relais, isolators, switches and so on.

But if the the one and only battery is dead, the GTS won't start.
Battery guards switches off the consumers at 11.8 to 10.5 Volt to keep the
battery strong
enough to start the engine. If the battery reaches 12 Volt or higher the guard
switches on
the consumers. I don't know how much Volt the GTS will needed to start.

When two batteries are used, I've to prevent high currents when the deep cycle
battery is dead.
So I've to charge it at home or I've to use a kind of device that prevents high
currents and will
only charge the deep cycle battery with only a few Amps. I don't know if such a
device exists.

BTW The Yellow Top can be mounted any way you want, even upside down. So Fred
if you drive a lot on two wheels with your sidecar outfit, the Yellow one would
be safe ;-)
