Fellow Californian, when filling my GTS I place the nozzle in the tank and
fill until it shuts off. I then lift the nozzle until it is inserted
approximately 1/2" passed the vent flap. If the auto shut-off of the nozzle
prevents continued flow of gasoline in this position then, using two fingers
placed on either side of the nozzle , push the rubber surrounding the nozzle
to compress it towards the handle about 1". This will disengage the
auto-shut-off related to the fume gathering vacuum system that is required
by California law at all gas stations. The auto shut-off within the nozzle
still works so the risk of overfill is minimized. This approach seems a bit
more elegant that performing surgery on the gas tank.

Subject: Removal -- Gas Tank Filler Tube Thing
Dave Biasotti -
Congratulations on your newfound freedom! That's awesome. I was between
jobs last fall ... it was great.
I'm becoming increasingly frustrated at having to play the gas pump "on and
off" game every time I try to fill the tank on the GTS. I've got to get rid
of that damn filler tube thing (or whatever the *#%@ it's called) inside the
gas tank so that I top the muther off without endlessly jacking around with
the pump. And, I seem to recall you doing this (and someone, maybe you,
said it doesn't take that long with the right cutting tool).
What do you say about you giving a demonstration on this procedure sometime
in the future? I'll bring the pizza.

Subject: Goldendale attendance update
Well it seems I've become one of the casualties of the high tech bust
and am now semi-retired. Actually still on the payroll of LSI thru the
fall of this year as I look for a new job, but not all that anxious to
go back to work right away.
Enjoying the time off to work on home projects, cars, the bike and do
some more rides.
So that means is I can go to Goldendale. Talked to Kelly to join up with
the Bay area group riding up together. Roger, I hope your house has room
for one more? Why don't you send me a msg off list with your address so
I can load it into my GPS.
The Riveria motel is all booked up so I found a room at the New View
hotel in Biggs (have no idea how it is, but cheap - $34/ night) phone
541-739-2525.
