I've had a similar experience to Kevin's, concerning
oil consumption. My GTS went from 8oz@10k to 4oz@20k
to 2oz@46k in a 3000 mile 80+mph range interval. Oil
consumption is DECREASING. Broken in with Castrol GTX
for the first 3k, MOBIL1 ever since. A friend I ride
with must add several oz's every couple hundred miles
on a BMW R1100RS Oilhead.
