According to the manual, if the ABS unit fails, it has a fail-safe design
that allows the brake system to function independently (like on a normal
bike). I don't know how this would be affected in a system that has been
rebuilt of modified.

I've been trying to track down a problem in my ABS system for some time. In
my case, the ABS dash light will flash, but the system will continue to
function normally, indicating that the computer has detected a fault but not
shut down the ABS. If the ABS light comes on steady, the anti-lock portion
of the system shuts down, but the brakes still work without the ABS
function.

The ABS computer will store fault codes that can help you pinpoint the
problem in your system. There is a very easy way to access these codes
without buying the special Yamaha tool. Let me know if you need more info.
