This weekend I finally found the problem with my Scottoiler not dragging oil
over from my Number plate reservoir! - a small crack in the main Scottoiler
resevoir - hence an air leak, hence no low preseeure to drag oil over from
the HCR.

Can the Hawkoiler be adapted to work with the Scottoiler HCR (ie the number
plate reservoir)

Subject: The HawkOiler!!

I removed most of my ScottOiler this past weekend to install John
Laurenson's HawkOiler! The ScottOiler had lost prime again and refused to
refill itself from the touring reservior. I know how to fix this problem as
it had occured a few times in the past, but I decided to give John's
HawkeOiler a go as a permanent fix. I was attracted to the thought of
having control over when the system oiled the chain because oiling at high
speeds causes some splatter and rain conditions call for a little more
lubricant. My main concern with installing ANYTHING on the GTS is making
sure it looks OEM and fits right in. The HawkOiler fits the bill!! The
electric pump tucks nicely into the tail section and the 4 oz. reservior
(w/ 20w50 motor oil) fit fabulously onto the lower part of the U-Lock
holder built into the plastic under the seat. The topper? I installed the
wonderfully small push button actuator into the switch housing above the
headlight Hi/Low switch on the leftside bar! It's a thing of beauty and
looks like it came from the factory with it! I couldn't be happier. I'll
get some pictures soon, but had to take time now to congratulate John
Laurenson on a superior product! If anyone is considering installing a
Scottoiler, do yourselves a favor, and support a fellow GTS rider, and buy
the HawkeOiler instead! Better price, better product, more control, always
works, choose whatever oil you want to use!

P.S. - I've never met John and rest assured, if this had not been a good
product you would have heard the bad too!

I will be installing another of Hawke's excellent chain oilers. I've fitted
them to the FJ and Ace and reckon they're great. I'm not saying the
ScotOiler isn't good either, just that I didn't get along with it myself. A
top box is needed for additional luggage (she came with the OEM Krauser's)
and to give the wife a back rest. I'm used to a more solid feel to the
front
brake too, so a set of stainless lines may well follow shortly.

I've cast a dubious eye over that rather odd looking rear 'hugger'
mudguard.
I'm told by the ex-owner that it works superbly, but not sure about the
looks !

Once again thanks to all for the advice and especially Hawke, who took the
trouble to get the tape measure out when I was struggling on the rear
legroom front !

Feel like a 'real' member of the list now !
