I have just added a Scottoiler with high capacity reservoir behind the rear
plate and am quite happy with it. I have been checking the chain regularly
and it is always lubricated and what splash I get on the rear wheel
(slightly more than wax) cleans off relatively easily compared to lube or
wax. Last year I put on a new chain and waxed it and cleaned it
religiously, but when I took it off the bike this winter I noticed that it
was still quite stiff. The thing that really convinced me was when I
removed the front sprocket cover and saw the wax and gravel compound that
was caked inside rubbing against the chain and sprocket.
My bike may leave a drop of oil after a ride when I park it , but the chain
is very loose and well lubed. I would recommend it.
PS. The day after I got my bike together from the winter rebuild (with the
new Scottoiler) I went on a 3 day 3000km high speed ride of which about 50%
was in the rain. I was a bit worried about setting the oiler correctly so I
chose to over lube it. At the end of my trip the rear wheel was black, but
the chain was great and the reservoir was down less than 1/4 of the way.
Sure is nice not to have to carry lube or extra chain oil.
