I think the marks are usually pretty accurate. I have found that the
settings can change as you tighten the bolts, so you have to check it before
and after tightening all the bolts. If it tends to change as certain bolts
are tightened, then you need to compensate for that while adjusting in the
untightening mode.
Also, check the markings REAL carefully. 1 or 2 turns of the adjusters
might not be noticable on the swingarm gauge/marks.
I am not sure if that makes total sense, but think shooting a rifle in a
cross wind.

Having finally come to the conclusion that my knackered chain was due to a
mis-aligned wheel, I have to ask: What method to y'all use to align the
rear wheel? The marks on the swingarm are not precise enough, apparently.
Hints that don't involve mucho dinero are prefered. :-)
