Coincidentally, I opened up my ECU yesterday as I was replacing the battery.
Some observations
I made that were brought to mind from previous threads:
1) The PROM/EPROM/EEPROM is not evident. There is something that looks like
a EEPROM, but
it does not have the typical chip packaging, and is set up on its side, not
down flat. Could be
a relay.
2) Nothing is socketed on my ECU, just like everybody else has reported.
3) There is some sort of glue across all the components (like sloppy hot
glue). I talked to a PCB engineer at
my work, and he indicated that this is usually used to dampen vibration so
that parts will not
work loose. It could also be to check for tampering, but he said 90% chance
it was the former.
Just some observations

Joe,
When I get to ride in the mountains, I pick up a hesitation that is not
there
when riding at sea level. It feels like a lean hesitation to me.
As far as part numbers for the ECU, the 1993 GTS ECU/TCI box part number
is
4HH-8591A-00-00. The parts CD lists the 94 CDI box as 4HH-8591A-10-00.
In
Yamaha part numbers, the -10 in that position indicates a second
generation
or superseded part. I believe part numbers that start with 4BH are
European
GTS part numbers and used by other markets.
