Hi Pete
Yes got out myself at the weekend. A friend of mine couldn't wait to grab
the keys at the weekend and take mine for a spin (he also owns an FJ).
Strangely he had ridden one before and wasn't overly impressed. But perhaps
because mine is set-up currently the way many people here on this list seem
to be (120/70 and some extra psi, I run 38 front), he found it a
revelation. So much so that even he now was having second thoughts about
spending around 8000 + on an FJR.
A friend of mine from the Thunderace list has tracked down some Ohlins
shocks. Apparently a front one will be available any day and a rear in some
weeks time. So if anyone is interested let me know, he sourced one for my
Thunderace at a very good price. It may become more difficult to get these
units in the future.
Personally I've decided to go into uncharted territory. Since I bought my
GTS with touring, especially two-up, in mind, comfort for my pillion is a
real issue. Someone here reminded me of the Fournales air-sprung units and
I've ordered a pair of those. The principle sounds good for my application
and being someone that just 'likes to give things a go' I couldn't resist.
Anyhow I'll report back on how good or otherwise these things are once I've
given them a trial.
BTW, that's the good thing about the Fournales unit, at least here in the
UK. If you don't like them send them back to the supplier ( M R Holland)
within 28 days and it's a full refund, so I didn't think I had much to lose.
