I have found that on the first shift of the day, or when the bike is as cold
as it will be, I get a pretty substantial clunk going from 1st to 2nd.  But
that's about it.  As soon as it warms up...no more clunk.  PS I'm using
Amsoil Synthetic 20w-50, and have been using it since the 6000 or 8000 mile
change.
