Hi all- I just got this message from Steve Puig and thought I'd
pass it along. He says he doesn't belong in the phone book, but
I told him that "once a GTSer, always a GTSer."

Hi Kelly,

I've been transferred to Colombia & as a result had to sell all the
bikes my
sons & I had there (six of them, including the GTS). Colombia doesn't
allow
the import of used vehicles, including motorcycles. We've had to start
from
scratch once again, buying bikes here. I have a sport touring bike--
the BMW
R1100S. It doesn't have the growl & passnger comfort of the GTS but
I've liked
it nonetheless. Bogota is mountainous (about 8500 ft above sea level)
and
there are many twisty roads around here. The R11S is well suited to
these
roads as it is torquey.

Given that I can't ride very far for security reasons, I've bought a
touring
behemoth (K1200LT) that we keep in Miami (I go up about once a month on
business or for furlough). This summer we rode up to Washington DC,
taking in
the entire Blue Ridge Parkway & riding the Tail of the Dragon in NC (318
curves
in 11 miles).

We've signed up for Edelweiss's South Afica Tour in April & are looking
forward
to that-- it includes a Safari & a day at the South African GP with
Cycle
World's editor.

Over Christmas I saw the FJ1300-- it looks great in both silver & blue.
Looks
like an excellent successor to the GTS although it has no techno
trickery
except for the electric windscreen.

In short, technically I don't belong on the list anymore, although if
it was
up to me the GTS I would have brought the GTS along once again.
