Philip I didn't see where anyone else had gotten back to you so here's my .02$ worth: If the bike has ABS, check that it is working. Lot of us had problems with the hydraulic control unit dying due to moisture in the fluid. Requires AT LEAST annual fluid change to keep it alive. Also, you might look for rust in the swing arm bearings. The front may result in a squeak when the suspension moves (or might not) - mine squeaked. The rear didn't make any noise on mine but still ate the bearings.
All that I can think of. Just joined and scanned this list today. Reason is I've noticed (and quite attracted by) a 95 GTS for sale at house not far away from me. This one has only 25,000 km on the clock, but looks like it's been stood around outside a lot, as rust starting on some chrome bits (winter's here in Belgium not the best for bikes!). Owner has only had for a year. I've thought of making an offer, but can anyone offer any tips / anything I should look for when testing? I've been riding a BMW boxer for the last 20 years, so this'll be quite a change!!! (i'm keeping the beemer, but need to get valve guides modded for leadless fuel). I'd use the bike for long trips, but also for commuting into Brussels in rush hours when traffic is horrendous (which would often be in the rain). Any tips, suggestions, warnings, etc., most welcome. Best Philip
