The amount of HP that today's 600 SS make is amazing! However, torque is
power. HP is the amount of work performed.

RSRBOB talks about power...

As far as power, being 9 years old now, it has less power than the 600 cc
sport bikes of today, which are also lighter. For those of you about to
question this, most 600 sport bikes on a dyno joke dyno read around 100 hp,
where the gts is less, anywhere between 80 and the low 90s depending on who
you talk to. The 600s have a tremendosus HP to weight advantage. One thing
the GTS has, which does help a newer rider is more torque at lower RPMS.
The
new 600s have little torque compared to the GTS. Also note that they wind
to
15,500 RPM redlines to make that HP.
