An engine is short for 'heat engine.' Something that takes heat and
converts it to another form of energy, typically mechanical. A motor is a
device that takes energy (typically electrical) and converts it into
mechanical.

They are related, but engine implies heat and fuel, where motor is a simple
energy converter (something-> mechanical).

That's my understanding.
