David, Before you junk the whole system I suggest that you turn each of the pots to the fully rich position (clockwise)and set the TPS to max end of the range. The other suggestion is to borrow an ECU from a fellow 'GTSer' to determine if you have a "bad" ECU (doubtful but possible). The cost of a replacement ECU is probably less that converting to carbs.

The surging, coughing and general Futt, Futt, Futt that this engine displays below 5K rmp is steadily getting worse, and the On-Off nature of the throttle over 5K rpm is just plain dangerous. The Dyno operator saw that the ECU is flicking the mixture between 2 extremes. Below 5K its being held lean and above 5K or during hard acceleration, its running rich. Nothing he or I can do to change this right now. He suggested that I junk the EFI for Carbs. So I got home and opened up the ECU. I have identified all but 2 of the Chips, and if any one can tell me what the MG2520 10M23B and the MH614 10M20 are, I'll look to replace / reprogram them. I picked up a thread on a DIY-EFI web site where some one asked this question back in 1996, but he never got an answer. I also found lots of free SW for reading and re-mapping ECU proms, so this might be a home project if I can figure out what I'm looking at. At this moment I'm looking at junking the whole system as I mentioned to this list previously. My insurance company will probably burn me at the stake, but I need I bike I can ride. Motec ECU should fix this. As I said the the Dyno guy, I don't need any more power I'd just like to be able to use what I've got. I'll keep you all informed. Oh and she made 88.6 EEC BHP at the back wheel in 4th, topping out at 146 MPH, for those interested. David Evans 99 GTS1000 Actel FPGA FAE (Unique Memec)
