>Anyone bought a chain rivet tool to fit the rivet type masterlink? Chapparal >has them for about $85. Can't believe they're that expensive. Anyone know of >a better deal? The link press is another $19. Do you really need that or can >you get the side plate on with some multi-grips?
>Has anyone successfully flared the heads of the pins with a hammer and punch? >Thanks Joe. I use molegrips across the pin , with a small thin washer on the press link side , so the pin can protrude through it , when you clamp the grips . Don't for get to install the " O " rings first . The idea of the washer is to allow the pin to push through to the jaw grip ( acts as a setting piece ) , the thickness of the washer sets the amount it comes through . Do this for both pins , then ensure that the "link plate" link width is the same as one of the other chain links , measure with dial callipers and aim to be within 0.004" or 0.1mm difference between the links . If you've clamped the link up to much just tap the pin heads to increase the link width . Then place a metal block behind the press link ( to support it whilst flaring the pins ) and use a ball ended hammer to flare the pins . Then recheck the link width . atb Nick T --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
