I use molegrips across the pin , with a small thin washer on the press link
side ,
so the pin can protrude through it , when you clamp the grips .
Don't for get to install the " O " rings first .
The idea of the washer is to allow the pin to push through to the jaw grip
( acts as a setting piece ) , the thickness of the washer sets the amount it
comes through .
Do this for both pins , then ensure that the "link plate" link width is the
same as one of the other chain links , measure with dial callipers and aim
to be within 0.004" or 0.1mm difference between the links .
If you've clamped the link up to much just tap the pin heads to increase the
link width .
Then place a metal block behind the press link ( to support it whilst
flaring the pins ) and use a ball ended hammer to flare the pins .
Then recheck the link width .
