I used vise-grips to get the plate on then a hammer and punch to flare the
pin ends while my daughter held her foot against a large metal anvil (just
fit under the bike on the center stand) placed against the other side of the
pins. It worked fine, but having done it all now, I would probably opt for
the correct tool if you can afford it.

Subject: Chain rivet tool questions

Anyone bought a chain rivet tool to fit the rivet type masterlink?
Chapparal has them for about $85. Can't believe they're that expensive.
Anyone know of a better deal? The link press is another $19. Do you
really need that or can you get the side plate on with some multi-grips?

Has anyone sucessfully flared the heads of the pins with a hammer and
punch?

Thanks Joe.
