I went with the always popular and many times last resort option of getting the right tools for the job. It took over an hour on the phone to call 4 Sears stores to find one that had the 1/2 drive socket that I needed (it's actually 19mm, not 22mm as I said in my original post). I was put on hold forever, hung up on, and one store said they were moving the dept around and all their sockets were on the floor and they had no idea if they had what I needed. Ended up treking down to Cerritos to pick up the socket and a 18" breaker bar. It worked a treat. New brake pads installed and front tire back on with nuts torqued to spec rather than the previous spec times 3.5.
