Just got this in the mail today. As I can touch type fairly fast (faster than I can
scan
this letter, and OCR it), here it is. I think you can tell the parts I abbreviated and
rude comments I've added. It is a "fair cop" of a defense of their ABS failing. At
least it gets them off the hook, replacing pump units. (thre may be a few typos, I'm
not a professional secretary, but I've got good legs;)

Dear GTS1000A Owner:

This letter is addressed to all owners of Yamaha GTS1000A motorcycles in the
registration files of YM Canada. We recently were made aware of a maintenance
issue we feel is enough that it be brought to your attention.

As you know the '93/94 GTS mc are equipped with abs. On page 9-29 of the
owner's manual it lists the recommenations for brake serviceing. The section
recommends replacing all rubber seals every two years. The service procedures
also recommend that the brake fluid be replaced whenever the system is
disassembled.

While these requirements would imply the brake fluid be changed every two years,
it is not stated as clearly as possible. Please note the bf isn the abs braking system
of your gts should be changed every two years. It is recommended that only trained
monkees...Yamaha service personnel perform these service req'm.

We recently rec'd reports of hydraulic pump commponent of the ABS failing due to
internal corrosion. This corrosion is a result of moisture absorbed by the brake fluid
and it is for these reasons that it is recommended that the brake fluid be frequently
changed.

In addition, should the hydraulic pump fail it is possible it may not indicate abs
system failure on the instrument mounted warning lamp. Pleas remember one of
the inherent safety features of the gts abs braking system is even if abs does not
function the brake system will operate as it would withoug the abs anti-lock brake
feature. (please remember this as you hi-side)

YM Canada is concerned with your safety and wish to reinforce the need to properly
maintain the brake system (and mitigate litigation) and to ensure the brake fluid is
changed at two-year intervals. Have a safe enjoyable winter (whew!, no potential
MC litigation until next april in canada).

Sincerely,

YMCAnada Ltd.
