They'll be louder alright, my GTS was without the top piece of the fairing
and the stock airbox in place.  One major disadvantage would be hot air
getting injected instead of cooler air from the sides. Cool air is more
dense = more power.

I'd venture to guess the K&N filters in the stock box would be better and/or
modifying the stock box to flow more.

K&N filter podsAnyone out there with the individual K&N filter pods on their
GTS be willing to share their opinions?  I actually just bough the filter
for the R1 that needs modifying to fit the GTS, but now I'm thinking of
returning it and doing the pods instead.  I like the idea of losing the
airbox and the hassle of having to remove it to get at the engine.  My big
concern is noise, are the pods significantly louder?  Thanks for you input.
