The overall dates, 15th-21st are dictated by the availability of the venue and
to some extent other conferences, e.g. OSCON is the week after starting 23rd,
(and then long after we announced our dates UbuntuLive on the 21st & 22nd which
will clash for some people)

We chose to keep the same (successful) pattern from GUADEC 2006 of two warm up
days, three core days and two days of after hours stuff. Every option is always
going to cause issues for some people - for example last year for me to take
part in the Warm up I would have had to take friday as holiday from work to
travel, and I had to miss the last half of the final day of after hours to make
my flight home. This was all planned and discussed before Xmas and given that
we've now got a cracking keynote line up committed to these dates it's too late
for us to change.

Paul
