I'm to "blame" for that feature ;) http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=434124 It was a quick hack to have sponsors always visible on the screen (even on low resolutions) and not overlap right column with image. If scrollabar feels strange (or looks ugly), we can replace it with min-width property on middle column and "position: fixed" for right column (with IE hacks for that to work).
