I would advise against embedding the HTML within any executable; it
makes it a real pain in the neck to modify the interface, makes
integration of graphics difficult and can make the executable very
large. Instead, it's recommend the socket approach using something like
PHP or neotcl if people really want to use HTML. I volunteer here and
now to do the JFC interface to whatever. All the HTML interfaces I've
seen (netscape, etc) are lamo and I'm willing to prove it by doing
something better so next time Apache's GUI will blow them all away.
Incidently, still looking for comments on the stuff at
http://butler.disa.mil. I think the server docs in particular are
really in line with what's been discussed here and there's a good
beginning of a protocol syntax.
