Hi,
As you will have seen GNU Guix is now on Mastodon - we have entered the
social media age:
https://hachyderm.io/@guix
The goal of being on Mastodon is it's another communications method
(like the blog an email lists) that we can _tell_ people about GNU Guix,
but also _engage_ with people about Guix and related topics.
It would be great to have a few people who'd like to regularly post and
engage. Anyone interested?
Hachyderm is a well run instance, so anyone who wants to post has to
follow GNU Guix's normal code of conduct and additionally the server
rules [1]. Guix is classed as an open source project so there are some
special rules to be aware of.
Following Nix's pattern anyone who's posting will have their public name
mentioned so that people know the authenticity of the posts.
Guix HPC has some nice guidance for engaging, which are useful for
topics - with a slight rewrite they are:
1. Be on-topic
Follow, like and post about things that are related to Guix, Guile,
Scheme, Linux and Free Software. Do not post on topics that are
unrelated to the project (e.g. politics, sports or cat videos).
2. Opinions
Because the channel represents the GNU Guix project, express opinions
that have consensus within the project. Do not post opinions that are
controversial or enter into arguments over topics.
3. Tone
Post positively about Guix and related items. Engage with others and add
more light around topics. Do not engage in negative, disparaging
comments or flame wars.
4. Public channels
Post information across all channels so that everyone can engage using
the method that suits them. The goal is to avoid making any single
channel exclusive.
5. Watch the apostrophes
Check posts and avoid typos and grammatical errors. Bear in mind that
not all readers are native English speakers so avoid hard to read
phrases. Except for futurile who's allowed to mess up his apostrophe's.
Apteryx has requested that all posts go through a review process, in the
same way that blog posts do. It probably makes sense to group together a
few posts into a PR against the web site repository.
