Hi,
There's the possibility that we may be able to run an Outreachy Mentorship as
we have some money left over from previous years. I'm looking for any existing
developer that would like to mentor someone?
If you don't know Outreachy it provides internships in open source. They focus on
"anyone from any background who faces underrepresentation, systemic bias, or
discrimination in the technical industry where they are living".
There's two sides to this coin, we need to find a project/mentor and someone
who'd like to intern with Guix.
I'd love to be mentored as an intern!
Presumably I need to apply through [0], Although I'm not sure that I fit
the target demographic.
I'm in my final year of my undergraduate degree in Australia, made one
commit to guix, but done a decent bit of local hacking and would love to
make further contributions.
If you'd like to mentor someone:
- A project for the intern to work on
- 5 hours per week of mentoring - including answering questions, reviewing
contributions, and meeting with interns
- A real-time meeting at least once a week - either through real-time chat,
video conference, or phone
- Detailed and timely review of contributions - if a mentor is unable to
provide contribution review, they are responsible for finding community members
who can
- Guidance to interns about how to work in an open source community
- Guidance to interns about time management
There are different levels of project but I haven't quite got to the bottom of
that yet.
If you'd be interested or have thoughts please reply!
