to be somewhat pedantic, i am not aware of any jurisdiction,
including those where there is a concept of database rights, where
they are considered creative works. database rights flow as the
sweat of the brow: the rights are gained simply through the effort
of compilation, no creativity or «originality» is required.
(IANAL etc. I think not all countries have "databankenrecht",
and if they do it can be copyright, or an independent right.)
IANAL either, but: countries that have database rights are member
states of the EU (including Norway and the UK, despite neither
being a member state at this point in time), and Russia, at least.
database rights are not recognized in the US and Canada, among
