Kuwait & Qatar Goan Football Clubs To Play In Bahrain
The Goan football enthusiatics of Bahrain watching high quality and highly competitive football encounters from across the globe on Television in the comfort of their homes will have an opportunity to watch their own footballers at the Al Qadisiya Football grounds during the Eid holidays. Goa, which has emerged as a prominent football centre of India, has many players based in Bahrain who have donned colours for popular Indian Clubs like Salgaonkars, Vasco Club, Dempos etc. These and many of the footballers who excelled in the now defunct Bahrain Expatriate Football league, will be seen in action at Bahrain Goans Six-a-side Soccer tournament on November 14, 2004. Benaulim, Navelim, Tivim , Vasco, Canacona, Chinchinim, Sarzora, St. Cruz and Cansaulim have so far confirmed their participation.
AVC Kuwait, Rolling Youth Doha and two teams of Goan Boys of Qatar have responded positively to the invitation extended to them to participate in this tournament. The confirmation of these teams, has made headlines in the soccer camps of Bahrain based teams and a fierce competition for supremacy is on the cards. The tournament is open to any Goan teams and players of Indian nationality are eligible to play. Teams will be divided into four groups with preliminary rounds being played on a league basis, with the two top teams from each group qualifying for the knock out stage.
An exhibition match between North Goa Juniors and South Goa Juniors for boys under 15 years will be held on the sidelines of the tournament to mark the Indian children's day. The tournament is sponsored by Konkan Singers Club and co-sponsored by Nonoo Exchange, Gulf Computer Services, Union Press, Basma, OTSC and Al Jazira Super Markets.
