Former Indian army chief appointed Punjab governor: 
New Delhi, Nov 8 : President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Monday appointed former Indian Army chief Gen. S.F. Rodrigues as the new governor of Punjab and the administrator of the union territory of Chandigarh. A Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqu� here said Rodrigues' appointment would take effect from the date he assumes charge.  Rodrigues, who retired from the army as it chief in 1993, will be succeeding Justice O.P. Verma, who tendered his resignation Oct 29. --Indo-Asian News Service
