Goa will celebrate Independence Day on August 15. Several functions will be organised in the State. The main function will be held near the Old Secretariat, Panjim at 9.15 am, when Chief Minister, Pratapsing Rane will unfurl the flag, inspect the guard of honour. Rane will then proceed to Patradevi to attend a function at the Martyrs Memorial, at 11.30 am. Governor S C Jamir will host a public reception at Raj Bhavan at 5 p.m. Minister for Panchayati Raj, Subhash Shirodkar will unfurl the tri-colour at Kranti Maidan Ponda at 9.15 am.
Functions will also held at Mapusa ,Quepem, Bicholim and Mormugao. The Directorate of Sports will organise Prabhat Pheries for kids. A song contest will be held at the Kala Academy at 5.30 p.m.
Holiday Inn: Holiday Inn, Mobor will hold a bash titled The Spirt of Freedom on August 14. The event will start at 11 am. The highlights include kite flying competition and rain dance with DJ music. A fee of Rs 750 per adult and Rs 450 per child between 6 and 12 years will be charged.

Singing contests: Goa Kannada Samaj, Panjim will organise a patriotic songs competition in any Indian languages, on August 14, at 4 pm at Karnataka Tourism Office, Velho Building, Panjim. For details contact Srinivas Pai (9326125818) Vijay (9823158535), Mahabal Bhat (9422438720).
Margao Lions Club:The president and members of Lions Club of Margao will organise an Inter school patriotic song competition at Shri Damodar College Multipurpose Hall, Margao at 10 am.
Independence Blast: Premium Romanov will present Independence Blast on August 14 at Rendezvous, Dona Paula with bands like Alcatrazz, Creme, Brothers in Arms and Angels. They will be supported by DJ Ryan and DJ Yuri.
Anniversary: All Goa Nabhik Samaj Sanstha will be celebrating its 19th anniversary coinciding with the I-Day celebrations at Shree Gomteshwar Sansthan Sambhagrah, Brahmapuri, Old Goa at 3.30 pm.
Freedom Grind: Premium Romanov presents Freedom Grind with the best DJ in India, DJ Ivan spinning his magic. DJ Sasha from Russia, DJ Joel and DJ Aneesh will also perform at River Rays, Verem.
Felicitation of students: The panchayat of Xeldem will felicitate the SSC top rankers. The students to be felicitated are Savita Oliveira, Payton Pereira and Gangur Supriya all from Our Lady of Mother of Poor HS, Tilamol. They will get a cash prize and a momento. The felicitation will be held at 10 am in the panchayat hall.
