Kudos Goans of Mumbai.
It was a rare occasion for me during my close associations with 
Konkani.

A World Goa Day programme was beautifully organized by the stalwarts
of GRAF (Goan Review Art Foundation) recently at Malad, Mumbai. MC
started the programme in Konkani. 
But for the next item itself he continued with the high accented English. His thing may be that Goans
are lovers of English than their mother tongue. Even I too was in the
same opinion. But to my surprise the whole crowd stood up and shouted
at the MC saying "He, Konknni Uloi-re. Konknni Uloi-re." The MC got
patched immediately. Words didn't come out his mouth. He bowed his
head in shame and tried to continue his rest of the comparing in
broken Konkani. 
Later he confessed with me that as he is in Bombay for many years he doesn't know Konkani well.
I told him 'it may be his attitude towards his mothertongue made him
to forget his own language. If he is not comfortable in Konkani for a
Konkani prgramme then he should not have accepted to compare the event
in Konkani.' I suggested him.
The MC kept quiet.

I salute all Goans who stood up and demanded comparing in Konkani.
Years back similar practices were followed in Gulf coutries. But now a
days there is lots of awareness and revelution. There are number of
organisations in Dubai who conduct full programme in Konkani. This
example should be by all Konkani's around the globe.
