Mapusa clearance drive sparks violence
MAPUSA, Nov 7: The sudden market clearance drive by Mapusa Municipal Council today morning sparked off violence in the market, after angry merchants confronted municipal staff. Trouble began at about 8.30 am, when MMC staff led by the municipal engineer along with a police force, went to the market and started clearing roadside vendors. (H)
At long last some positive action to maintain the law of the land and sanity of the human race. Money seems to blind the whole world to the rights of others. The old and the little children who visit the Mapusa[ now Mhapsa] Municipal Market have a right to the shade that they were designed to have by the architect who designed the market complex. If the space in the shops is not enough, the owners can set up shop elsewhere. A person who has a tiny little flat does not occupy the footpath to make a bedroom for his growing family. Viva Goa.
