7-a-side Football Tournament

 AHosts Assolna, Velim, Cuncolim (AVC) Sports & Cultural Association – Kuwait won the 2nd Edition of AVC’s 7 a-side Football Tournament held on 4th November 2005 on the famous Soor Grounds in Kuwait City.  The tournament matches were officiated by Indian Football Referees Association (IFRA) officials.

In the finals AVC-Kuwait swampe United Friends (B) 4-0. The presentation ceremony was led by the Chief Guest V.K. Vohra, Manuel D’Costa (KIFF President), Marcus Pacheco (famed Goan Coach),  John Furtado (AVC-Kuwait President), and Braz of

The Man of the Finals judged by the panel of guests was awarded to Jimmy of AVC whereas U.G. Centre bagged the Fair Play trophy. Special memento was given to Cipriano for being the oldest player on Soor grounds still active with Veterans United.

In the run up to the finals AVC – Kuwait eliminated UFC (A), Kerala Challengers and Navelim YC whereas UFC got the better of Don Bosco, Curtorcares and Kuwait Goans Asscociation.

Displaying sublime skills and stamina inspite being made to play one extra game due to the courtesy of KIFF officials, the young brigade of AVC continued their fine form and were simply unstoppable in the finals to forge 3-0 up before the breather. Jimmy, Braulio and Edward moved in tandem to attack the rivals where young striker Steven showed determination. Captain Vincy and Liston were rock solid in defense and new find Jose was marvelous under the bar with the inspirational Francis keeping the team webbed together with his experience and skills.

 

For UFC stalwart Sarto Baptista (also President of IFRA) was the sole mastermind for the moves and was instrumental in keeping the score to the minimum. Determination and team effort was in ample display with AVC.

 

The  The Management of AVC- Kuwait thanks one and all for their contribution in making this event a success.   In a special way, AVC thanks the Arab Times, Kuwait Times and www.goa-world.com team for the excellent coverage provided for this annual tournament.  The proceedings were compeered by AVC’s own Remy Fernandes and captured on camera by the ace professional photographer, Rewon Gomes.
