| IOA asks state governments not to interfere in its matters Monday November 28 2005 UNI RANCHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has come down heavily on the state governments for attempting to ''interfere'' in its functioning and has urged them to refrain from such trespassing. The IOA general and executive meetings, held here till late Saturday night, decided to constitute a legal committee under Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) president R K Anand, MP, to oversee government intrusion in IOA's sphere. After the meeting, IOA president Suresh Kalmadi told newsmen that IOA has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw the state Sports Bill or else the IOA would be compelled to withdraw the 35th National games, scheduled for 2009, from the state. The IOA has also warned the Rajashtan and Himachal government, who are also planning similar legislations, that no National or international Sports events would be held in their states, he said. In another decision taken at the meeting, the association has threatened to impose a fine of Rs 1 crore on any states, which failed to meet the deadline to hold national games. He further stated that the much delayed Guwahati National games will be held from October 12 to 21 next year and Goa would host the 36th national games in 2011. |
