Planetary Defense Battery v1.0 (TL9) Copyright 2008 by Onno Meyer The Planetary Defense Battery has two primary lasers and two vertical missile launchers on a single tracked chassis. The lasers can reach out almost a lightsecond (from airless worlds) while the missiles can reach over the horizon and defend against saturation attacks. Twenty smaller lasers provide point defense. Unlike a fixed space defense system, the PDB can maneuver to evade orbital strikes. Stealth and jammers protect it against enemy sensors. A full load of ammunition and provisions is $18,966,000. The battery might fit into Traveller games where contragrav is less effective (or more expensive) than described by GURPS Traveller, even if it is unlikely to last long against capital starships.
