Hello,

I'm not sure why, but I fely like simulating an motor vehicle accident (MVA) with GURPS 4e, using a stock human (joe average with all 10 attributes, no armor) and a car (the TL7 Sedan 53hp, DR5, p. B464).

Assuming a normal city speed of 60kph (37mph, 18.23 yps) and the pedestrian possessing no relative movement toward the car, and a general HP use or a high bumper/general torso hit:

Slam: p. B371:

Car inflicts: (( 53 x 18.23 )/ 100 ) d6 damage -> 9.66 -> 10d6 damage

Pedestrian : (( 10 x 18.23 ) /100 ) d6 damage -> 1.82 -> 2d6 damage

(rounded as per p. B371)

(Hmm, this appears to be in line with B430-432.)

The car has DR5 and will receive an average of 2 damage (2d-5, or 0-7).

The unaided human does far worse: as 10 is more than double 2, the pedestrian is automatically Knocked Down (assumingly beside the car), and receives 10d6 crushing damage, an average of 35 damage. Now dropped to -25HP, two immediate HT rolls are required to avoid dying before this turn is over. (Worst case would be 10d6=60, bringing him to -5xHP -- immediate death!)

Next second/turn, and each after, a HT roll is required to stay conscious if trying to act ("0 HP or less"). Shock of -4 applies to any rolls on the next turn. As this is greater than 5hp, this is a Major Wound (B420), and requires another immediate HT roll to avoid being Stunned.

Alternatively, use of hit location (Legs):
Assuming the car his both legs, and then stops, each leg will take HP/2 *2 damage, or 10, for a total of 20 damage. The victim will be at -1xHP, and suffer most of the above, but require only one HT roll to avoid dying.

Does this seem right in both senses?
