This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

The 'double issue' of this week presents the same ship twice, once as
a Vehicles design and once with the Spaceships rules. The twin versions
are not interchangeable in the same game, but they have a similar look
and feel in both systems.

1,000-ton Unstreamlined Hyperfreighter v1.0 (TL10)
  Copyright 2009 by Onno Meyer

This starship uses one obvious violation of physics as we know it (the
hyperdrive) and a few less obvious ones to allow interstellar travel and
adventures. The freighter is unstreamlined, so she uses orbital transfer
stations or shuttles at both ends of the flight.
The freighter has a main hull and two spin capsules rotating at 0.3 G.
The hull contains the bridge, engines, reaction mass tanks and 360 tons
of cargo. Each capsule has quarters for twenty persons and life support
for all forty in case of emergencies. The ship mounts two x-ray lasers
against asteroids or other threats.
The fusion rockets use 5,000 gallons of reaction mass per hour. A full
load of provisions is $60,000.

Subassemblies: Body +8, two Pods +7.
Powertrain: Four 62,500-lb. vectored fusion rockets; 2,500-ton
hyperdrive; two 400-kW RTGs; two 20,000-kW fusion reactors; five
180,000,000-kWs rechargeable power cells; 54,000,000-kWs rechargeable
  power cell.
Fuel: 72,000 gallons water.
Occ: 10 bridge RCS, 16 double-occupancy cabins, 4 single-occupancy
  cabins, 4 luxury cabins.
Cargo: 36,000 cf.

Equipment:
  Body: Full stabilization and cyberslave mounts for X-Ray Lasers;
extreme-range radio; two extreme-range laser communicators ; two
8,000-mile, air-search radars; two 3,200-mile thermographs; 3,200-mile
radscanner; three x400 astronomical LLTVs; precision navigation
instruments; two transponders; three inertial navigation systems; two
HUDWACs with pupil scanners; advanced radar/laser detector; three C7
hardened mainframes; 16 terminals; full fire suppression system;
engineering workshop; 6-man airlock; two 40 man-day limited life
systems. Pods: 90-foot spin arm; extreme-range radio; 8 terminals; full
fire suppression system; operating room; automed; 200-sf mess; 1-man
airlock; 40-man full life system; 5,000 man-days of provisions.

Design Notes
Body is 70,000 cf. Pods are 15,000 cf each. Structure is heavy,
standard. Armor is standard composite. Sealed. Computerized controls
with duplicate maneuver controls. 15,140 cf of empty space in the body,
5,031 cf of empty space in each Pod. Empty weight is 640,000 lbs.

1,000-ton Unstreamlined Hyperfreighter, Spaceships Version v1.0 (TL10^)

This starship uses one obvious violation of physics as we know it (the
hyperdrive) and a few less obvious ones to allow interstellar travel and
adventures. The freighter is unstreamlined, so she uses orbital transfer
stations or shuttles at both ends of the flight.
The freighter has a main hull and two spin capsules rotating at 0.1 G.
The hull contains the bridge, engines, reaction mass tanks and 292 tons
of cargo. Each capsule has quarters for twenty persons. The ship mounts
two lasers against asteroids or other threats.
The freighter has a 1,000-ton (SM+8) unstreamlined hull with spin
gravity.
