Tanks like the M1 have maximums, the M1 is good for open country like Iraq, but
crap in Afghanistan, and putting it in South Korea is nearly useless other than
in he defense, since most of the bridges north will not allow the almost 80 ton
Tank to cross..
If the bridges won't allow a 60 ton M1 to cross, then it would severely
hamper the Norkers ability to utilize their own road system to move
material south towards the border.
Or wonder why the Bulge ground to a halt?
The German offensive ground to a halt because they ran out of fuel and
couldn't meet their objectives due to stiffer resistance from the Allies
than expected.
Tanks up front was new and had issues, roads to narrow, bridged limited for the
size of the tank, and fuel/logisitics. The M1 has a massive logistic chain, it
burns fuel at how fast? Gallons/mile!?
Also it is fast and all, but it has a massive heat signature? Turbine suck fuel
and are HOT exhaust.
I'll take a turbine powered M-1 over a diesel powered anything else.
Better acceleration and lower noise signature are pretty important.
Helo has limit yes, it take a skill pilot.
It is maneuverable, but? it is 3d vs tanks being 2d warfare. Hard to hide it..
Terrain masking. We've been using it since the first attack helos were
fielded and we began developing doctrine for them.
But it can get places faster and not all ground weapons can deal with it, but with use of
tech and knowledge. Classic was the use of RPG-7 warheads and its auto-destruct at like
200 yards, made for some "fun" in Somalia, barrage fire and all detonating at
the same time?
I don't think that Ivan is going to pull that stunt on a moving and
dodging AH-64 that's trying to kill him. Anything can be rendered
combat ineffective through ambush. But the ambush only works so many
times before it becomes a deathtrap for the ambushers.
MEcha, can walk, but only with new tech is it possible, looking at how artificial limbs have been progressing.. Think and the mechas arm does it.. Makes for faster reaction times, but .. How long will one last? Batterys and like are to small to last, or to heavy, but nuclear possible but .. broad cast power or .. logisitics - broadcast power!
Mecha, IMO, given the nature of how technology has developed and is
projected to develop, will be a niche item - if that, unless the GM
decides otherwise. Battlesuits such as Traveller's Battledress and the
armor from popular fiction such as Armor and Starship Troopers will be
much more useful, IMO, than a 40' tall robot.
