Hello Eric, one could think of it as a "self-constricting loop" -- run the cable through blocks on the vehicle and a convenient rock or tree, tie the end of the cable to the winch, and switch the winch on. The loop gets shorter, and and the two blocks are pulled together. The practical problem is that the winch might move along the loop. How is it powered? Electric? Hydraulic? A mechanical power take-off becomes difficult.
