This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml Onno Meyer, 2011-10-03
Harriston-Class 7-ton Tracked ATV v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL9) Copyright 2011 by Onno Meyer Yori is a dry and underdeveloped world in the Spinward Marches, and the water supply is a constant problem for outlying settlements. This has led to the development of the Harriston water tanker. The All-Terrain Vehicle rides on four tracks. The cab has seats for four crew -- driving can be difficult in the open desert -- and there are bunks for a backup crew. The ATV has a multifuel engine, burning petroleum fuel left from an earlier era in the planetary development. The rear is taken by a tank for 15,500 liters of water. Usually the tanker goes to a central delivery point, but there is a small pump to distribute water to individual consumers. At routine speed, the engine burns 9 gallons of diesel per hour. A full tank is $540. Subassemblies: Body +5, four Tracks +4. Powertrain: 220-kW tracked drivetrain; 300-kW supercharged ceramic engine; four 270,000-kWs rechargeable E power cells. Fuel: 450 gallons diesel (fire on 6). Occ: 4 RCS, 4 bunks. Cargo: 85 cf. The Traveller rules affect the background and design choices, but not the technology of this vehicle.
