I have a question about brown dwarfs for the astronomers on the list...
I read an article about brown dwarfs recently discovered that are
roughly the same temperature as the human body. This started me
thinking about their relation to gas giants (I know there's a train of
thought that says they're somehow related) and whether you could
effectively hide a fleet within one, or, going one step further,
actually put a space station within one.
My question has a couple parts.
First, is this even possible within the constraints of gravity and
materials composition of the stellar body?
Second, what exactly is a brown dwarf composed of?
Third, could a station, or ship, use the composition of the brown dwarf
or some sort of reverse radiator for power and thus not use their own
power plant?
Fourth, what is the gravity at the surface and somewhat down into the
brown dwarf? I understand that you still will have pressure to deal
with, so you're likely not going to go too deep.
Thanks!
