Thanks for the reply, Onno! I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, the "Honey, Do..." list came out with Christmas shopping added on and I never got back to my computer this past weekend. I'll take you up on the building one step-by-step in GVB, if you really don't mind. I'll contact you off-list from home tonight and start that process so we're not cluttering here. Like I said, I understand the process of building the vehicle and the mechanics of it, I'm not getting the tie-in with GVB apparently and the formulae for some of the custom additions.

Doing the numbers by hand helps me to get a feeling for the vehicle. But I have the vehicle builder and I'll dig it out tomorrow if nobody answers faster. > So now I'm trying my first vehicle of my own. You have to hit the right spot -- too light and it isn't much better than unpowered infantry, too heavy and it will come to the attention of tanks and gunships. Back in the 90s we had epic debates on tank-vs-battlesuit, with plenty of designs to make one point or another. What TL? What setting? What mission? > Which leads to another question, I know that I can put them in with custom > weaponry, but I'm more than a little daunted by the formulas necessary to do > that. Try one with the Vehicles rules with pen and paper first, to see how it fits together. If you tell me what kind we can do it step by step. > Is there a reference for them anywhere? Robots is the oldest of the three. It uses weapon stats dating back to Space and Ultra-Tech. p. 22/23 in my 1995 edition. (I don't recall if there were any others.) Vehicles 2nd edition has an entire chapter of weapon design rules and three pages of sample weapons designed with them. The samples are on p.42-44. With a few minor exceptions, Mecha uses excactly the same rules as Vehicles, but Mecha contains just the stuff for Mecha, so the rest won't get in the way. The weapons are on p. 65-68 in my 1997 edition. > Or is GVB not > really designed to build very robust mecha and robots and I'm trying to > squeeze orange juice out of a banana? As far as I can remember it should work.
