This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Hyperdrive Trainer Mk.III v1.0 (TL10)
  Copyright 2014 by Onno Meyer

Even with the best simulations, there comes a time for pilot trainees
to get into a real starship. Experienced pilots need refresher training
to maintain their proficiency. Last but not least, many old Hyperdrive
Trainers end their career as station hacks on some starport.
The Mk.III has a cylindrical airframe with small stabilizer fins. The
cockpit has tandem seats, the trainee in front and the instructor pilot
in the rear. A small stowage compartment in the nose holds luggage for
ferry flights. The rear of the airframe is taken by the engines -- two
sublight thrusters, the hyperdrive, and the MHD fusion reactor.
The ceramic armor of the Mk.III has to be replaced from time to time,
so used Mk.III often look new. It takes a close look under the hood to
find out how many flight hours they have left.
It takes 25 minutes to recharge the power cell if coasting.

Subassemblies: Body +3.
Powertrain: Two 3,600-lb. vectored super reactionless thrusters; 15-ton
hyperdrive; 3,655-kW super MHD fusion reactor; 5,400,000-kWs
  rechargeable power cell.
Occ: 2 CCS. Cargo: 10 cf.

Equipment:
Body: Two very-long-range radios; two 25-mile radars, air search; two
25-mile thermographs; 10-mile radscanner; two x200 astronomical LLTVs;
flight recorder; two sets of precision navigation instruments; two
transponders; two inertial navigation systems; two C4 hardened, small
computers; two terminals; two socket interfaces; compact fire
suppression system; two 2x1 man-day limited life systems; two crashwebs.
External: Radiation shielding.

Statistics
Size: 15'x6'x6' Payload: 600 lbs. Lwt.: 6,000 lbs.
Volume: 300 cf Maint.: 25 hours Price: $657,690

sAccel: 1.2 G sMR: 1.2 FTL Speed: 1 parsec per day

Design Notes
Body is 300 cf, with underbelly skids, lifting body, and very good
streamlining. Structure is light, advanced. Armor is advanced, fireproof
ablative. Sealed. Computerized controls with duplicate maneuver
controls. 9.26 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 5,400 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], VXi, and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A TL11 trainer, with much better atmospheric performance.
