This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Hyperdrive Trainer Mk.IX v1.0 (TL16)
  Copyright 2014 by Onno Meyer

Even with the best simulations, there comes a time for pilot trainees
to get into a real starship. Experienced pilots need refresher training
to maintain their proficiency. Last but not least, many old Hyperdrive
Trainers end their career as station hacks on some starport.
The Mk.IX is a featureless ellipsoid with small stabilizer fins. The
nanometal hull can flow apart to form doors or maintenance hatches when
required. The cockpit has two seats for the trainee and the instructor.
It takes 132 minutes to recharge the power cell at full thrust, or 80
minutes if coasting.

Subassemblies: Body +3.
Powertrain: Three 30,000-lb. mega reactionless thrusters; 150-ton
hyperdrive; two 20,000-lb. contragrav generators; two 6,000-kW total
conversion reactors; 54,000,000-kWs rechargeable power cell.
Occ: 2 RCS. Cargo: 10 cf.

Equipment:
Body: Two medium-range neutrino communicators; two very-long-range
gravity ripple communicators; two 100-mile AESAs; two 100-lightsecond
FTL radars; two 100-mile thermographs; 100-mile multiscanner; two x200
astronomical LLTVs; 15-lightsecond FTL scan detector; 15-lightsecond
hyperspace emergence detector; flight recorder; two sets of precision
navigation instruments; two transponders; two inertial navigation
systems; two C11 hardened minicomputers; two terminals; two neural
induction fields; compact fire suppression system; forcelock; FSR 10
simple shaped force screen generator (DR 2,500); two 3-man total life
systems; two ejection seats; two gravity webs. External: Radiation
shielding.

Design Notes
Body is 300 cf, with underbelly skids, lifting body, and very good
streamlining. Structure is extra-heavy, standard, living metal. Armor is
collapsed matter. Sealed. Computerized controls with duplicate maneuver
controls. 1.75 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 5,400 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], VXi, and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A biomech airship.
